What it is

An ecommerce inventory app is a web-based database that tracks stock by SKU and variant across your online catalog — recording available-to-promise quantity, reserved units, reorder points and cost of goods so you stop overselling and know exactly what to restock.

What your ecommerce inventory management tracks

Every field below is one you can add, rename, or remove by chatting with Kleap — a starting point tuned for ecommerce.

SKU / variant

The specific size-color-style combination, since one product can have many separately sellable variants.

On-hand quantity

Physical units in stock before anything is committed to orders.

Reserved / committed

Units already promised to paid-but-unshipped orders, held back from new sales.

Available-to-promise

On-hand minus reserved — the true number you can safely sell right now.

Reorder point

The level that triggers restock, set from sales velocity and supplier lead time.

Cost of goods (COGS)

Landed unit cost — the basis for margin and inventory-value reporting.

Supplier / lead time

Who supplies it and how long restock takes, so reorder timing is realistic.

Backorder flag / quantity

Whether a sold-out variant is oversellable and how many units are owed.

Days of inventory on hand

On-hand divided by daily sell rate — how long until you run dry.

Benchmarks

What good looks like for ecommerce

Stockout rate
Keeping best-sellers in stock 95%+ of the time (stockout under 5%) protects revenue.
Inventory turnover
4-6x per year is a common healthy range; higher for fast fashion.
Sell-through rate
60-80% of a buy sold within its window signals right-sized ordering.
Built for your whole team

Fulfillment / ops

Decrementing on-hand and reserved as orders pack and ship.

A variant's true availability and backorder status before promising a date.

  • Generic, not shaped around ecommerce

Built with Kleap

  • Free to start — no per-seat pricing
  • You own the app and its database, data stays yours

Frequently asked questions

How does it stop me from overselling?+

The app separates on-hand, reserved, and available-to-promise, so the number you sell against is on-hand minus what is already committed. When you record a new order it reduces available stock, so you see a variant approaching zero before you oversell it. Note it does not sync live with your storefront — you update counts as orders come in.

Can it handle product variants like size and color?+

Yes — each sellable variant is its own record with its own SKU and quantity, so a shirt in five sizes and three colors is fifteen tracked lines. You can filter the catalog by product to see every variant's stock at once.

Does it connect to Shopify, Amazon, or my store?+

No — there are no channel or marketplace integrations. It is a standalone web database where you enter and adjust stock yourself; many owners use it as the single source of truth they reconcile against their channels manually.

How do I know what to reorder and when?+

Each variant has a reorder point and a days-of-inventory-on-hand figure from its sell rate, so a dashboard surfaces what is about to run out. You place the actual purchase order with your supplier — the app tells you the what and the when.
