A working app, not a template
What it is
A time-tracking app for contractors is a web tool where field crews and office staff log hours by job site and cost code so a construction or trades business can track labor cost per job and bill or pay accurately. On Kleap it's a website on your own database, where each worker records hours against a specific job and phase under their own login.
What your contractors time tracking tracks
Every field below is one you can add, rename, or remove by chatting with Kleap — a starting point tuned for contractors.
Worker or crew member
Labor is the biggest variable cost on a job, so every hour has to be tied to the specific worker who put it in.
Job or project
Contractors run several sites at once and cost each separately, so job is the field that makes labor-cost-per-job possible.
Cost code or phase
Assigning hours to framing, electrical or sitework lets the contractor compare actual labor to the estimate line by line.
Task
A short task note explains the hours to a project manager who wasn't on site that day.
Date
Payroll runs weekly and jobs bill by period, so an accurate work date keeps both aligned to the right cycle.
Hours
The core quantity for both job costing and pay, entered per shift so nothing is estimated after the fact.
Regular vs overtime
Overtime is paid at a premium and erodes margin fast, so flagging it separately protects both payroll and the job budget.
Billable flag
Rework, yard time and equipment maintenance aren't always billable to the client, so separating them keeps job billing honest.
Pay or bill rate
Storing the rate per entry lets the dashboard turn crew hours into labor cost and, for T&M jobs, into an invoice amount.
What good looks like for contractors

Frequently asked questions
Does it use GPS or a device to clock crews in automatically at the job site?+
No. Kleap builds a web app where crew members enter their own hours against a job, using a form or a simple in-app start/stop. There's no GPS geofencing, automatic clock-in or location tracking, so hours are what the crew or foreman records, not what a device detects.
Can I see labor cost per job against my estimate?+
Yes. Because each entry ties hours and a pay rate to a job and cost code, the dashboard can total actual labor against the estimate for that phase. That's how you catch a job going over on framing hours before it eats the whole margin.
Does it run payroll or send hours to QuickBooks?+
No. Kleap keeps hours on its own database and does not process payroll or sync with QuickBooks or other accounting software. It gives you clean totals with regular and overtime split out per worker, which you then export into your payroll or accounting system.
Can my crew log hours from the field on their phones?+
Yes, in a mobile browser. There is no native app to install from an app store, but the Kleap site is responsive, so a foreman can log the crew's hours from the truck and they land in the same database the office sees.
