Compress Image to 50 KB

The usual limit for the photograph on exam, job and scholarship applications. Add your photo and download a sharp JPG under 50 KB in seconds.

Maximum file size

Every file comes out at 50,000 bytes or less, so it passes forms that count 1 KB as 1,000 or as 1,024 bytes.

KB

or drop them here, or paste with Ctrl+V. JPG, PNG, WebP, up to 20 at once. They never leave your device.

How it works

  1. Pick the size

50 KB is selected. Choose another preset or type your own limit if your form asks for something else.

  2. Add your images

Choose files, drop them on the box or paste a screenshot. Up to 20 at once, nothing is uploaded.

  3. Download

Each file is checked against the limit and named after it, like photo-50kb.jpg. Several files come as one ZIP.

The photo limit of most application forms

Photographs on online applications are very often capped at 50 KB, frequently with a minimum of around 20 KB so that the picture is not too poor to identify you. That is why this page opens with 20 KB as the minimum: clear the box if your form has no minimum, or change it if it says otherwise. Always check the current notification, as limits do change.

Getting a sharp face under 50 KB

  • Crop to head and shoulders first. A face that fills the frame survives compression much better than a small face in a big room.
  • Use a plain light background. A wall behind you costs a fraction of the bytes of a bookshelf.
  • Face the window, not a lamp: even light means less noise, and noise is what eats kilobytes.
  • If the form gives dimensions (for example 200 × 230 px or 3.5 × 4.5 cm), resize to them first, then compress here. Small dimensions often fit 50 KB at full quality.

How many pixels fit in 50 KB

At JPEG quality 80, 50 KB holds a photo about 560 to 770 pixels on its long side, which is more than any form displays. Compared with the other limits:

Largest long side of a photo that fits each size at JPEG quality 80
LimitLong side at good quality
20 KB330 – 470 px
50 KB560 – 770 px
100 KB860 – 1,140 px
200 KB1,170 – 1,600 px

For reference: measured on five real photos (landscapes, a workshop interior, a screenshot) at JPEG quality 80. A plain background fits more pixels, a busy one fewer. The tool itself keeps the full size whenever a quality of at least 50 fits, and only then shrinks.

Questions

How do I reduce a photo to 50 KB?
Add the photo with 50 KB selected and download the JPG. The tool finds the highest quality under 50,000 bytes, so the face stays as sharp as the limit allows, and the result shows the exact size.
The form says between 20 KB and 50 KB. Will it pass?
That is the default on this page. A large photo comes out just under 50 KB. A small one keeps a high quality and can come out lighter; if it would fall under 20 KB, the tool raises the quality to the maximum, and warns you if that is still not enough.
Can I compress my photo and signature together?
Yes, add both. They are compressed to the same limit, so for a signature limited to 20 KB, open the 20 KB page or tap the 20 KB preset after downloading your photo.
Will my photo look blurry?
Rarely at 50 KB. A 4,000-pixel phone photo keeps several hundred pixels on its long side (about 560 to 770 at quality 80), still several times larger than the photo box on the form.
Is 1 KB 1,000 or 1,024 bytes?
Both are in use, and forms rarely say which. That's why the tool aims under the stricter one: a 50 KB file here is at most 50,000 bytes, which is also under 51,200 bytes. The exact byte count is shown next to every result.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. The page compresses them inside your browser with the canvas built into it. Your files never reach a server, so ID cards, signatures and certificates stay on your device. You can even switch off your connection once the page has loaded.
